Our History
Our Story
Rooted in our heritage, our restaurant’s story begins with the culinary legacy of our grandparents, Marcelino and Felipa Solis, hailing from Creedmoor, Texas. Raised on their farm amidst pigs, cows, chickens, and a flourishing garden, we were nourished by the authentic flavors of their home-cooked meals. During tamale season, they’d hand-select one of their prized pigs, ensuring every dish was infused with love and tradition.
Our menu pays homage to their timeless recipes; from Grandpa Marcelino’s cherished carne guisada to Grandma Felipa’s signature enchilada gravy with chile con carne. As migrant workers in the 1960s, they mastered the art of stretching meals to feed a family of ten, infusing each dish with resourcefulness and gratitude. Their enduring dedication inspires us every day as we share their culinary heritage with our community.
Meet the Family
Gina always enjoyed the joy home-cooked meals brought to her family and friends. She is immensely grateful to her family for their support in her dream of opening restaurant Tejas Taco House and now, Castillo's. She is also a Real Estate Agent who enjoys helping families find their dream homes.
With over 30 years experience in the business, Gina's uncle Abraham and his twin brother, Adam, have opened multiple lage - chain restaurants. Abraham is our Head Chef here at Castillo's while his twin, Adam, comes in to help with the dinner rush after managing the Houston Restaurant in the morning.
Gina's ever loving and supportive husband, Johnny, served as a Marine and when he is not putting out fires with the Houston Fire Department, he is helping to keep the restaurant clean and the customers happy. Always ready with a smile and a helping hand, you will often see him greeting customers, serving dishes and cleaning tables to get them ready for new customers.
Rudy is a business owner of a Commercial Stucco Company by trade but as Gina's supportive brother, he loves to come in and help out with the restaurant whenever he can.
The Matriarch of the family, Janie helps Adam manage the Houston Restaurant in the morning, but may often be seen at Castillo's lending a helping hand. She has been the backbone to the family, always keeping a keen eye on customer service.
Son of Gina and Johnny, Max can often be seen lending a helping hand whenever he is not busy studying for his Civil Engineering degree.
